About us
The Daily Kernel is a free weekday newsletter of Prairie farm news for Western Canadian grain and cattle producers. We cover policy, trade, weather, livestock, and agtech, and explain what each story means at the farm gate.
Every edition leads with the day's most important dated development for Prairie producers: tariffs and trade, rail and handling, federal and provincial policy, crop progress, and major weather shifts. Each edition also covers machinery and agtech, plus livestock and rural news when there is a fresh story worth telling.
We also keep running trackers on the biggest ongoing stories, such as the Monette Farms land sale, so you can find the whole picture in one place.
The Daily Kernel is news, not a market report. We do not publish commodity prices, futures quotes, or trading calls.
Stories are built on dated, verifiable sources, with primary sources favoured: government releases, court filings, provincial crop reports, Statistics Canada, and established farm press. Every story links to the source it is built on, and anything beyond what a source confirms is labelled as our read, not stated as fact.
The Daily Kernel is published by Klarenbach Research, an independent agricultural research and publishing firm in Saskatchewan. It is written by Trent Klarenbach, founder and lead analyst at Klarenbach Research, who holds a B.S.A. in Agricultural Economics. Klarenbach Research also publishes Prairie Grain Intelligence and the Klarenbach Grain Report.
