📦 The Big Bin: Tariff Deadline Blinks, Deal "Nears Completion"
What happened: The 50% U.S. tariffs on Canadian dairy, alcohol, and motor vehicles were set to land at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.
Instead, Trump hit pause. Late Tuesday, he announced a three-day delay, saying the two sides are close to a deal covering roughly $20 billion in Canadian goods.
By Wednesday, he told reporters, "we've come to a deal with Canada," claiming Canadian tariffs on U.S. farm goods will be "non-existent."
Carney's own read was cooler: "substantial progress has been made, although there is important work still to be done."
Why it happened: Canada called Washington on Tuesday night with concessions Trump says he needed.
