Happy Saturday!

Grab that second cup of coffee, kick your boots up on the tailgate, and let's see which stories had the whole Prairie talking this week.

It turns out a wet fall, a tariff standoff, and a fuel credit loophole are exactly the kind of drama you all can't look away from.

Here's the countdown, most-read to least.

#1: El Niño Threat Puts Historic Harvest Delays on the Table

It turns out nobody wants a soggy fall.

A historic El Niño is shaping up to be 2026's biggest curveball, threatening to shave 20% off the fall's workable field days across the Prairies and Corn Belt.

Translation: combines parked longer, grain tarped tighter, and patience tested harder than usual.

Saskatchewan ranchers are already watching shrinking grassland economics bite as the wet trend sets in.

#2: US 45Z Fuel Credit Opens the Door for Canadian Canola

Canola growers, this one's for you.

The US 45Z clean fuel credit just named Canadian canola an approved feedstock after Washington dropped the land-use penalty that had kept it locked out.

That's a real structural demand channel opening up south of the border for canola oil.

Add in 89% of Prairie farmers now running auto-guidance and a shrinking US beef herd, and it's clear why this one had legs.

#3: Health Canada Greenlights Drone Spraying for Prairie Farms

The drones have officially landed.

Health Canada cleared drone-applied pesticides for any product already labelled for aerial spraying, a decision that could reshape how a lot of Prairie acres get treated in the years ahead.

Pair that with a fresh survey on how farmers actually decide to buy new tech, plus the Mexico border reopening for Canadian cattle, and it's no wonder this edition hit a nerve.

#4: Kubota's 20-Year Streak Tops US Tractor Sales

Orange still reigns.

Kubota just wrapped 20 straight years as America's best-selling tractor brand, a run longer than most marriages (and most cell phone contracts).

We also dug into a Washington rancher's fight after his county came after him for speaking out, proof the machinery shed isn't the only place Prairie producers are pushing back this year.

#5: Canadian Dairy Digs In as Aug. 19 U.S. Tariffs Loom

Dairy is not backing down.

With 50% US tariffs set to land Aug. 19, Dairy Farmers of Canada and DPAC are holding the line and rejecting further concessions in the CUSMA review.

StatCan also dropped a sobering number this week: 52,700 fewer farm jobs in six years, or roughly 24 people a day walking away from the industry.

That's the countdown!

Same time Monday for a fresh edition.

Until then, keep your boots dry, your bins full, and your combine fueled up for whenever this rain decides to quit. 🌾
