🌾 The Big Bin: Lenders Are Getting Nervous About 2027

What happened: At the Farmfest outlook forum in Minnesota this week, ag economists warned that a chunk of farmers who already refinanced their operating loans to get through 2026 may have nowhere left to turn if commodity prices stay weak into 2027.

Frayne Olson, a crops economist with North Dakota State University Extension, said it took some creative accounting just to get operating loans together for some producers this spring, and lenders are already bracing for what comes next.

"In some cases, we've got one shot at refinancing, and from there on, it's going to be, 'we'll see what happens,'" Olson said.
