Happy Saturday!

Grab your coffee, because the combines are finally getting a breather, and it's time for our favourite Saturday ritual: counting down the five stories you Prairie readers clicked, opened and forwarded the most this week.

From dirt that keeps paying off to a billion-dollar federal band-aid, here's what landed hardest in your inbox between Oct. 5 and Oct. 9.

🥇 #1: Farmland Values Rise 3.8%, Alberta Leads, Sask Cools

6.0% CTR, this week's web traffic champ

Turns out dirt still pays. FCC's mid-year check-up showed Canadian farmland values climbing 3.8%, with Alberta running laps around a cooling Saskatchewan market.

We also dug into Ottawa's dyed-diesel crackdown, a fuel-tanker theft that reads like a Prairie heist movie, and a scholarship win worth bragging about.

🥈 #2: Farm Insurance Premiums Climb as Coverage Shrinks: CFIB

3.5% CTR

You clicked this one hard, and honestly, who wouldn't.

CFIB's survey found most ag businesses paid more for insurance this year while getting less coverage for it, a combo that stings worse than a wasp down the collar.

We also tracked the surge in farm credit demand and tipped our hat to a Saskatchewan barley legend finally getting his Hall of Fame moment.

🥉 #3: Ottawa's Billion-Dollar Band-Aid & Fertilizer Roulette

16.8% CTR, the week's best click-through rate

This one earned the week's sharpest click-through because a billion dollars gets attention, even when it's aimed at food hubs instead of your yard.

AAFC's new Food Link Fund is chasing local food terminals while farmers keep playing fertilizer roulette and fighting weeds that feel like a greatest-hits album from the 90s.

4️⃣ #4: China Farm Tariff Relief Expires Dec. 31, Beijing Mum

3.7% CTR

Nothing grabs a Prairie farmer's attention like a deadline with no answer attached.

China's suspended tariffs on canola meal, peas and seafood run out Dec. 31, and Beijing hasn't said a word about what's next.

We also looked at FCC courting private capital for its $1B processing fund, because apparently everyone wants a piece of the bin these days.

5️⃣ #5: Sask Harvest Hits 82%, Manitoba Gets a Livestock Cop

4.2% CTR

Closing out the countdown is harvest math and a new kind of cop on the beat.

Saskatchewan's combines pushed the provincial harvest to 82% complete, with canola sitting at 72%, while Manitoba funded a dedicated livestock enforcement officer to keep watch on rural crime.

Bonus points for the U.S. farm debt number that even Washington might not have straight.

That's the countdown, folks.

Same amber graphics, same questionable puns, same bunch of us watching your bins and your inboxes.

Keep that coffee topped up, and we'll see you Monday.

Until next week,
The Grain Bug Crew 🌾
